Genealogists: If you go to youTube and find ANCESTRY, they have several how to videos on different aspects of researching family history.

We have provided the public with information for a very long time. We are still delivering but in a different way.

Have a good time e-xploring our digital resources and stay well.

Update March 22:

The library will remain closed through April 4.  Please keep all materials you have checked out and return them when the library re-opens.  All due dates have been extended to May 1st.

We will provide further updates if the situation changes.  In the meantime, stay safe, hunker down and read a good book!

Update March 17:

Like everyone else, we are following recommendations in order to keep patrons and staff healthy and well. The library will be closed Monday March 16 through Saturday March 21. we will make a determination then about the following week.

As of March 17, THE BOOK DROP IS CLOSED. We ask you to keep items until we are able to open. No fines will be charged during this time. The due dates for all materials has been changed to May 1st. No book drop is another inconvenience, but we are not able to handle and process the volume that would be coming back. There is no delivery which does not help. We appreciate your understanding. Be safe and stay well.

If you have not used an e-book, now is a good time to try it. If you have a problem or question e-mail the reference librarian at She will get back to you.

Other important changes to Ocean State Library services during this time:

Due Dates - All due dates on current loans have been extended to May 1. You DO NOT need to return materials until we reopen.

Fines - Libraries have agreed to waive fines from March 1 through the end of this public health crisis.

Holds - Ocean State Libraries has disabled the ability for patrons to place holds from the catalog so that we don't create false expectations for when holds may be able to be picked-up. Holds that are currently on our shelves waiting to be picked-up will be available for up to one week after re-opening.

Library Cards - We have extended any card that was about to expire to a new expiration date of May 1.

If you don't already have a library card, you can apply for one online here:
